New Life Member Appointed - Katrina Fanning AO PSM
Last week Katrina Fanning AO PSM retired from our board after six years.
Katrina is one of the most awarded women in the ACT for her services to Indigenous women, government administration, rugby league, First Nations women in rugby league and her commitment to community and equity.
She’s a Wiradjuri woman. She’s represented Australia in rugby league. She’s helped woman players get fair treatment so they can make their best contribution to their chosen sport at an elite level
Katrina’s awards and acknowledgements reflect her wisdom, knowledge and generosity across many domains. She has been made an Officer of the Order of Australia, awarded a public service medal for her contribution to government administration. She was the 2020 ACT Australian of the Year and in 2023 was awarded Canberra Citizen of the Year and ACT NAIDOC Person of the Year.
She hasn’t just been a director of our board while she’s been with us, but also of the Fred Hollows Foundation and the Canberra Raiders. She’s a director of Coolamon Advisors, an Indigenous majority owned and managed company dedicated to Indigenous development, participation and outcome equity.
Katrina’s keen strategic acumen has played a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s growth and direction. Her guidance has directed the focus of the Board’s work and has been a source of strength and inspiration for our staff. Over the past six years Katrina has been a devoted and influential member of our Board, this year as Deputy Chair. Her tenure with us has left an indelible mark on the Centre.
We will miss her from our governance, but will remain grateful for her commitment to the Centre, among all her other commitments.
We are very proud to appoint her as a life member of the Women’s Legal Centre ACT.
