Legal Assistant/Senior Legal Assistant (Family Law)

Are you a legal secretary or administration pro looking for a change? We are looking for a Legal Assistant/Senior Assistant to join our growing family law team.

  • Part-time position (school hours preferred)

About the Centre

The Women’s Legal Centre is a specialist community legal centre, providing critical legal assistance services to women in Canberra.

Our primary legal practice areas are family law, family violence, migration law, employment and discrimination law. The family law team provides holistic legal services to the women of Canberra. We are experts in understanding the dynamics of domestic and family violence. We use the family law system to help clients achieve long-term safety outcomes and financial independence.

About the position

Part-time position (25 hours per week). 9:30am – 2:30pm Monday to Friday preferred.

Legal Assistants provide legal administration and secretarial support to solicitors and staff.

They support efficient and accurate organisational processes and are a critical liaison between clients, service users, referring agencies and the Centre. Full position description here..

About you

We are looking for someone who wants to support our team and has the following skills and attributes:

  • Highly developed organisational skills and the ability to manage competing workloads under pressure
  • Excellent phone manner and liaison skills, including communication with referring agencies and other professionals.
  • Commitment to work with highly vulnerable clients and people experiencing acute levels of stress or ongoing trauma

Work experience in family law in a secretarial capacity will be considered favourably but is not essential. If you have highly developed administration and organisational skills and want to apply those in a new way, we also want to hear from you.
