SERVICES & PROGRAMS

Health Justice Partnership Program

The Centre works in partnership with the Calvary Public Hospital Bruce and Child and Family Centres to deliver essential legal assistance to women affected by domestic and family violence.

These partnerships aim to build the capacity of universal allied and clinical health services to identify and respond to women experiencing domestic and family violence and to make specialist legal services more accessible to women who would otherwise not access this information and assistance.

HOW WE HELP

We aim to make legal assistance easy to access, as early as possible. We provide free legal advice and representation in relation to domestic and family violence, relationship breakdown and separation. This includes advice for women in relation to care arrangements for children, divorce, dividing property, family violence and child support matters.

We also assist women in the early stages where Care and Protection have become involved in their families, supporting women to engage with Care and Protection on an equal footing and keep children with their families if possible.

We also provide advice an assistance for women experiencing discrimination or issues at work related to being pregnant or having caring responsibilities, including accessing parental leave, flexible work or other entitlements and workplace issues.

HOW WE WORK

Centre lawyers are embedded within the teams at our Partner sites. We work alongside clinical and allied health staff to provide legal assistance as part of their care for women and families.

If you are a patient or service user of Calvary Public Hospital or one of the Child and Family Centres across Canberra, please talk to staff at these locations about getting a referral to see one of our HJP lawyers.

This Program is funded with assistance from the ACT Office for Family Safety.
